The villages of Gerrans and Portscatho are within walking distance (approx. 1 mile) and between them offer shops, a post office, pubs which serve food, restaurant and a garage/petrol station at Gerrans which also hires out bicycles.
St Mawes on the tip of the Roseland Peninsula offers more facilities and breathtaking views across the Carrick Roads to Falmouth and Pendennis Castle. There is a passenger ferry from here to Falmouth.
The King Harry Ferry nearby offers a short cut with your car across the river to Falmouth and the pretty cathedral city of Truro (approx. 12 miles if you go by road), which has a fantastic market and good shopping.
Towan Beach is a crescent of sand with good rock pools at either end, about 300 yards from Bosvean. Dogs are allowed and it offers safe bathing. The beach is usually very quiet and a great spot for birdwatching.
(The cream teas at the Boathouse restaurant in Portscatho are highly recommended!).
Bosvean is central to and within easy reach of a large number of Cornwall's famous gardens. Trelissick is just the other side of the King Harry Ferry crossing and the Lost Gardens of Heligan are also close. The Eden Project, Glendurgan, Trebah, Trewithin Gardens and Lamorran are within easy driving distance. There are many other tourist attractions within close reach.
Windsurfing and sailing tuition, canoe and boat hire are available at the nearby Percuil Boatyard. There are riding stables for hacks and trekking in the lovely Nare Head area at Veryan.
The area is outstanding for birdwatchers. Species regularly seen include barn owls, kingfishers, dunlin, little egrets, yellowhammers, oyster catchers, cormorants, curlews, stonechats and peregrine falcons. We have been told the fishing is also good!
Above all, the area is perfect for walking. You can choose to follow the South West Coast Path which runs 300 yards from the door, or you can explore futher inland through the wooded valleys and sheltered creeks.
